Nagaland pays rich tribute to educators on Teachers’ Day

Nagaland today recognized and paid rich tribute to teachers across the state on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. There are 31,063 teachers in Nagaland at present. Out of this, government school teachers constitutes 18, 725 and private school teachers at 12, 338.

In State Level Teachers’ Day celebration here today at NBCC Convention Hall, Advisor for School Education & SCERT Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome handed over State Teachers’ Award to 14 teachers in recognition of their immense contributions.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Yhome assured all administrative reforms in the education department to provide good quality education in the state. He expressed gratitude to the teachers for their dedication, guidance and support.
Teacher’s wisdom and encouragement help us to grow, teach us not just subjects, but also important life lessons and skills, he stated.

They teach us to be kind, helpful, honest and encourage us to dream big and work hard, he added. Yhome also urged the students to acknowledge their teachers and promise to be good students and listen attentively to their advice.

Students’ health card launched
On the occasion, Dr Yhome formally launched the Students’ Health Card, which was formulated by the Department of School Education in coordination with Department of Health & Family Welfare to monitor and maintain student health and well being.
It serves as comprehensive record of student health related information.

The objective of the Students’ Health Card is to promote health awareness, facilitate early interventions, strengthen parent-teacher collaboration, promote health metrics and promote healthy lifestyle. Annual health check up is to be taken up in convergence and coordination with RBSK/RKSK and other health programmes.

School holiday on Sept 6
School Education Principal Director, Thavaseelan K, announced September 6 as school holiday for all government and private schools functioning within the state of Nagaland in honour of teachers.

Meanwhile, in consultation with all stakeholders and in consonance with National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023, DoSE notified that all schools (both government and private) functioning under the department shall adhere to the following regulations in regards to the working days for schools.

All Saturdays shall be observed as holidays for the Foundational Stage (Classes A & B, Classes 1 & 2) and Preparatory Stage (Classes 3 to 5). For the other stages viz Middle (Classes 6 to 8), Secondary/ Higher Secondary (Classes 9 to 12), the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month shall be observed as Holidays.

Assessments/examinations, 10 bagless days and other non-academic activities/sports events may be held on Saturdays. These activities may be held as per the school’s context.

Thavaseelan informed that this notification was issued with the approval of the competent authority and comes into force with immediate effect.

‘Teachers are leaders, guardians of our future’
Sharing greetings, Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) Chairperson, Asano Sekhose said that teachers are leaders and guardians of our future and the pillar of knowledge.

She commended all the teachers for their dedication and tireless efforts in promoting quality education in the state. She conveyed sincere gratitude to all the teachers for their dedicated services extended to the Board in implementing various reforms, policies and new initiatives in the education system.

“This Teacher’s Day, let us recognise not just the past achievements but also the possibilities that lies ahead. As we celebrate the invaluable role teachers play in moulding young minds let us take a step forward to transform the teaching learning process to holistic approach as envisaged in NEP 2020 catering to the intellectual, emotional and social well being of every child,” she said.

The celebration was marked by special song, tribute to teachers,’ power point presentation on life sketch of late Dr S Radhakrishnan, honouring teachers, video clip of Lephizo Apon, Graduate Teacher (GHSS Dimapur)- National Teachers Awardee 2024, display skit on disaster preparedness. Vote of thanks was proposed by Razouseyi Vese, Additional Director, DoSE.
