Over 1.74 lakh farmers in Nagaland today received financial benefit totaling to over Rs 35 crore when the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi released the 8th installment of the funds under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on May 14.
The Prime Minister released over Rs 20,000 cr (2,06,67,75,66,000) to 9.5 cr farmers across India, including a total of Rs 35,1162000 to 1,74,564 farmers in Nagaland, informed data given by the Union Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
During the video conferenc, attended by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Modi also interacted with farmer beneficiaries.
Nagaland Chief Minister in a tweet also updated that he attended the event. “More than Rs 19,000 Cr was directly transferred to the bank accounts of over 9.5Cr farmers in the country,” he added.
Nagaland Advisor for IT, Science and Technology, Mmhonlumo Kikon also tweeted appreciation to the PM. “One lakh seventy four thousand five hundred sixty four farmers benefitted from the money transferred to their accounts under the PM KISASN scheme! Thank you @narendramodi ji from Nagaland,” Kikon, who is also a BJP National Spokesperson tweeted.
PM Kisan is a Central Sector scheme with 100% funding from Government of India which operationalise from December 1, 2018.
Under the scheme an income support of Rs 6,000 per year in three equal installments are provided to small and marginal farmer families having combined land holding/ownership of upto 2 hectares.
While the State Government and Union Territory administration identify the farmer families eligible for support, the fund are directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
