Kohima, November 20 (MExN): The Nagaland Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) S Supongmeren Jamir today conveyed the expectation as well as urged the Government of India (GoI) to implement and respond to the ‘Agreements’ signed with Nagaland political groups “without any further delay.”
The Agreements are the August 3, 2015 “Framework Agreement” with the NSCN (IM) and the November 17, 2017 “Agreed Position” inked with the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs).
A press release from Jamir, who is also the president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), emphasised the enduring significance of the decades-long Naga national struggle and stated that today “we stand on the cusp of realising the long-envisioned solution.”
He also acknowledged the sacrifices of untold Naga national workers, past and present, during the intervening period.
Accordingly, the MP underscored that the time has come for the Nagas “to stand in truth, walk the extra mile, and ensure that the hard-fought agreements reached between the NPGs and GoI are not jeopardised but utilised as the basis to realise the long-desired aspirations of the Naga people.”
While recognising the courage and wisdom of successive GoI administrations that collectively facilitated the signing of these two agreements, he also highlighted that the journey is far from complete.
“The arduous journey will come to a full circle only when the present Central Government honours the sanctity of these agreements by implementing them without any further delay,” he added.
Delayed implementation, Jamir asserted, would risk and undermine the trust and hope that have been sacrificed and built over decades of negotiations.
“It is imperative to respect the core principles and objectives laid out in these historic agreements and recognise the rights and identity of us Nagas,” he added, urging the GoI to act swiftly and implement the two agreements.
