Kohima, March 23 (MExN): Nagaland Minister for Health & Family Welfare S Pangnyu Phom launched the i-Learn capacity building and performance tracking application during a virtual programme on March 23. The i-Learn app is a learning management system for Community Health Officers (CHOs) with self-facilitated learning for improving and learning new skills in clinical and non-clinical areas.
Minister Pangnyu stated that Nagaland in partnership with USAID-NISHTHA/Jhpiego, has implemented the app with the aim to equip the state’s health workforce who are on the frontlines, with the right knowledge, skills, and expertise. He stated that the initiative will be able to support CHOs in enhancing their skills and capacities in various domains and ultimately build stronger, well-skilled, and equipped health workers to provide quality and accessible healthcare services to the community.
The Minister also stated that Nagaland’s previous project with USAID-NISHTHA/Jhpiego—the Naga Telehealth which was launched in September last year to ensure continuity of essential health services across all 189 Health and Wellness Centres (H&WCs) in the State had received good feedback from medical doctors and CHOs. More than 1,000 tele consultations have been conducted through this platform, he added.
Meanwhile, NHM Mission Director Dr I Talitemsula Jamir stated that the success of the ambitious programme would not be possible without the CHOs who lead the primary healthcare teams at Health and Wellness Centres. Dr Jamir stated that CHOs are vital cadres of the health workforce who take quality, affordable and accessible healthcare right to the doorstep of communities, and such, laid emphasis on the importance of strengthening their skills. She stated that the tool would support CHOs and empower them with new skill sets and at the same time, help monitor their progress.
Director of USAID Health Office Sangita Patel also spoke during the programme and asserted that USAID is committed towards protecting the safety and health security of the global workforce, and assured to continue life-saving missions and support partner countries in their response to COVID-19. NISHTHA is supporting the state government of Nagaland for moving from a fragmented to comprehensive primary healthcare through operationalization of Ayushman Bharat – Health and Wellness Centres, she added.
She also expressed gratitude to the State government for initiating the partnership to work together and combat the pandemic, by building a stronger and resilient health system and health workforce which would ensure quality and accessible healthcare services to all citizens, the DIPR report stated.
