Zunheboto Police gets smart app

Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma today said that police verification is lacking in many sectors of the State and expressed hope that new technology innovation will help bridge the gap. 

Speaking at the launching programme of the Smart Zunheboto Police application on August 22 at the PHQ Kohima, he pointed out that many Departments or other entities rarely undergo verification unlike a Ministry or agency under the Government of India, which conducts mandatory verification like availing a passport, among others. 

However, Sharma expressed hope that the app will help in bridging the gap between police services and the public, besides helping the Department to operate in a smarter way to protect and serve.

He maintained that the vision to digitise the system of policing has been a long felt dream given the vast roles and responsibilities that the police play. 

With the objective of revolutionising law enforcement capabilities by providing integrated, intelligent system that streamlines operations, enhances public safety and fosters community trust, the first-of-its kind innovation for police modernisation smart police application was launched for Zunheboto as a pilot project. 

While he expected the application to be user friendly, Sharma also called for public support as to make the application work and hoped that it will not just be a success for the police but in the whole policing system, which include the public in general.

According to the DGP, the Zunheboto police has been selected for the pilot programme for the 1 year project and can also be taken up in other districts in the days to come. 

Looking at the advantages of the smart app, assessed along with others in the police department last week, Sharma said that one aspect of the app caters to citizen linkages, which includes a component for filing anonymous complaints.

He said that this would be advantageous in effectively reaching out to cases which otherwise are not registered. 

During the launch, SIMARTECH Consultants Private Limited presented the technical report of the app. 

Among others, the app aims to provide “grassroot innovations” to the citizens such as  resource management, village guards system, provide crime data, disaster response, missing child tracker, foster care tracker, fake news mitigation  and other services like job verification, staff management and command and control management centre. 

The staff welfare will be made easy through easy application for leave management, pension application, rewards and recognition and salary slips and will be able to manage resources like arms, inventory, duties, missions and campaign. 
It was further informed that the app can be accessed anywhere and works offline along with advanced geo-location and real-time analytics.
