Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said that decades of pendency of the Indo Naga political issue has resulted in the state lagging behind in the development spectrum. He said educated and literate people of the state were deprived of benefits, jobs, competition among others owing to the unresolved issue.

The Chief Minister said this while addressing the inaugural function of Kezoma Urban Station at Kezoma Village, Kohima on Friday.

According to Rio, as part of a democratic set up, elections will take place even if final settlement of the Indo Naga Political Solution is arrived at or not. However, if a settlement is arrived at, it may alter the election process up to certain level because interim arrangements and commitments will have to be taken up.

The addition of constituencies, increase of seats in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and economic packages, he said will be considered in case of a political settlement.

Rio said the government’s foremost aspiration today is to bring all the Naga National Political Groups to a consensus with the Indian government since the NSCN (IM) has already signed a Framework agreement with the centre and the 7 Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) have accepted the Agreed Position to pave the way ahead.

“If all Nagas come together and bring about a final settlement to the Indo Naga Political Solution, our future generation will reap the fruit and we will live in peace and harmony paving way for development,” he maintained.
