Nagaland Housing Minister visits projects in Guwahati & Shillong

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 5 (MExN): Minister for Housing & Mechanical Engineering, P Bashang Chang visited the proposed site identified for construction of New Nagaland House at Azara near GIMT Guwahati on September 4. 

The site is located 1 km away from New Airport, Guwahati. He said that the proposed project would be initiated at the earliest possible time. Thereafter, the Minister and his entourages proceeded to Shillong, Meghalaya to visit the proposed medical lodge, Government of Nagaland at Mawdiangdiang, near NEIGRIHMS, New Shillong. 

He met the doctors and nurses of NEIGRIHMS hailing from Nagaland State at Guest House and held an interaction concerning challenges and grievances faced by the Nagaland patients at NEIGRIHMS. Accordingly, they exchanged their views towards overcoming the existing challenges. The Minister also extended financial aid to the patients at NEIGRIHMS.

Nochovono Tase, Professor cum Principal, College of Nursing, NEIGRIHMS welcomed the Minister and his colleagues and extended gratitude to the Government of Nagaland for showing keen interest on the construction of the medical lodge. She stated that around 5,000 to 6,000 of the patients being admitted in NEIGRIHMS are from Nagaland as it is the nearest, affordable and renders best services particularly for Cancer patients. 

Tase also proposed that the Nagaland Medical College should tie up with NEIGRIHMS, as the latter is the first ever Post  Graduate Medical institute in the North East and considered to be the best medical college in the entire North East, amongst other government institutes. 

Er Ketousielie Kengurusie, Executive Engineer, Estate Division highlighted the blueprint of the medical lodge. He informed that the proposed project will be a 4 storey building inclusive of basement, 30 rooms for patients with kitchen attached and washrooms and a 45 bedded dormitory. 

The Minister acknowledged the health staff of NEIGRIHMS for their tireless efforts and consistent services during the Covid pandemic. He further informed that the Government of Nagaland is emphasising on the health, education sectors and infrastructure development. He stated that the proposed project for the medical lodge is one of the priority projects, as it is an immediate requirement for patients. 

The Minister along with health staff, engineers and colleagues inspected the proposed site for the medical lodge. 

A press release from the Minister’s PS informed that in line with the land lease agreement which was signed in February 2022, the land has to be developed within 5 years from the date of inking the agreement, which infers that the building has to be completed by February 2027.
