Training of Child Welfare Committees on Child Rights underway in Kohima

A seven-day residential training of Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) on Child Rights in Nagaland organized by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in collaboration with Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) facilitated by Seva Bharati Purbanchal (SBP) commenced today at Hotel 2K, Kohima.

Speaking at the inaugural session, NSCPCR chairman, Alun Hangsing said that the Central government had ratified and adopted the Child Rights Act in 1992 while Nagaland government passed the legislation in 2013 in order to create congenial atmosphere and also for the protection of the children.

The Commission and the government are trying best to strengthen child rights, he said.

He said all the child rights officials of the state and the districts have a purpose to protect the child rights and have to work hard to fulfill the purpose of creating a congenial atmosphere for the children of Nagaland.

He said that the four pillars of the commission are – right to survival, right to protection, right to development and right to participation and therefore it is their responsibility to take forward the welfare of children and mould a vibrant future Naga generation.

Yongchingkumla, Additional Secretary for Social Welfare Department, Nagaland expressed hope that the training sessions would come up with better measures for protection of child rights. Take the training seriously.

Division Head, Child Labour and Children in Distress, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), Payal Sharma delivered the opening remarks while member SCPCR Nagaland, Akumla Longchari delivered the welcome address.
