Nagaland Govt pursuing for Greenfield Airport for state Capital Kohima

Nagaland Transport, Civil Aviation & Railways Minister, P Paiwang Konyak today said that in accordance with the National Policy having an Airport in all the state capitals, the state government has been pursuing with the central government for the construction of a Greenfield Airport for the state Capital, Kohima.

Replying this to MLA Yitachu in starred question at the 12th session of 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly here September 22, the minister said that in line with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) policy of “purchase and transfer,” the state government have already purchased a suitable land for the proposed airport measuring an area of 1013.72 acres and ready to be transferred to the AAI for the construction of the proposed Greenfield Airport at Ciethu for the state capital Kohima.

Recently, Ministry of Civil Aviation has forwarded the DPR for Ciethu Airport with a request to the state government to initiate subsequent action basing on the two options of Master plan for development of Runway area and basic strip.

The minister stated that the state government has decided to opt for the 2nd option. i.e runway length of 2750 M at 1412 AMSL with A-320 (Without any load restriction) and at the estimated cost of Rs 8870 crore.

Paiwang informed that the work shall start after getting approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India and subsequent sanctioning of the requisite fund for the project by Union Cabinet.
