Nagaland Govt envisages a ‘modern planned city’ at Chathe Valley

Proposal under evaluation by Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, informs CM Rio

Kohima, August 17 (MExN): Nagaland is envisaging development of a ‘new modern planned city’ in the State, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio informed on Tuesday. 

The Urban Development Department has submitted detailed proposal to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for incubation of a new city in Chathe Valley, said Rio in his address at the 77th Independence Day celebration in Kohima at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza on August 15.

The city is planned to be developed at Chathe Valley, Chümoukedima district over an area of around 39 square kilometre, he added.  

The Chief Minister further maintained that the site has been selected keeping in view its very favourable geo-location, climatic conditions, and very good connectivity, by National Highway and Railways.

The necessary NOCs (No Objection Certificates) from all concerned for the land have been taken and other formalities regarding the same have been completed, he added. 

According to Rio, several investment entities have already have shown interest to partner with the State Government in developing the new township. 

The proposal of the State Government is presently under evaluation in the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for selection, and we are hopeful of its early consideration, he added.
