Amid a huge outcry over the proposed “Gau Dhwaj Sthapna Bharat Yatra” event scheduled in Kohima on September 28, the Nagaland Cabinet has decided not to grant permission for holding the event citing ‘maintenance of public order.’

The State Cabinet has decided that no permission will be granted for the proposed Yatra, Government Spokesperson and Minister CL John informed, addressing the media after a State Cabinet meeting here today.

Underscoring the protections given under Article 371(A), which safeguards Naga religious and social practices, and its customary laws and procedures, he noted that the Cabinet was apprised of the opposition voiced by various civil society organisations.

Subsequently, John, who is also the Nagaland Minister for Forest, Environment & Climate Change and Village Guards, stated that “the Cabinet decided that, in the interest of maintaining public order, no permission will be granted for the proposed Yatra.”

Meanwhile, Nagaland Cabinet has approved the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in three districts viz. Chümoukedima, Niuland, and Dimapur districts.

Apart from Minister John, another government spokesperson and Minister Temjen Imna Along also briefed the media after the meeting.
