Says violations will attract disciplinary action

Kohima, March 5 (MExN): The Nagaland Government has issued a notification directing government employees to refrain from engaging in private sector employment or promoting their association with private enterprises without prior approval.

According to the State DIPR, the Department of Personnel & Administrative Reforms (DPAR) issued the directive after noticing that several government employees were either engaging in employment or promoting of private sector.

The notification further highlighted that the official government designations and names of these employees were being publicly advertised in print and social media to promote their ties with private enterprises.

In this regard, DPAR referred to Section 15(1) of the Nagaland Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1968, which stated that, “No government servant, except with the previous sanction of the government, shall engage in any trade or undertake any employment other than his (her) public duties, nor carry on directly or indirectly any business or undertaking, nor use his position as a government servant to help such business or undertaking.”

Thus, any government employee engaging in private sector employment or trade, either directly or indirectly, or found actively canvassing or promoting such trade without prior approval from the appropriate authority, would be considered in violation of the Rules, 1968, it stressed.  Such violations will attract disciplinary action, the department added, directing strict compliance from all government employees.
