Nagaland Governor makes maiden visit to Zunheboto district

Zunheboto, August 26 (MExN): Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan paid his maiden visit to Zunheboto district and held meeting with various civil society organisations at multipurpose cultural hall on August 25. 

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said, “Zunheboto being in the geographical centre of Nagaland is the heart of Nagaland and so peace and prosperity should radiate and emanate from it.”

 

 

 

“In the past Sumis were known for their hospitability, bravery, superior war skills and were considered to be martial tribe among the Nagas but hurdles and obstacles have hindered the people’s aspiration for peace and development,” the Governor observed. He encouraged the Sumi people to uphold the rich tradition left by the forefathers and overcome all obstacles and march unitedly towards peace and prosperity. 

As per a DIPR report, the Governor urged upon all the schools and colleges to adopt the New Education Policy (NEP 2023) as the principles of the NEP is to determine and nurture the child potentially, increase the child reading and numeracy knowledge and to improve the child’s creativity and logical thinking. 

On healthcare services, the Governor said that “quality healthcare should be accessible and affordable to all citizens.” He urged the concerned departments to take the government schemes to the door steps of the citizen for the benefit of the common citizen.

Stressing on the importance and availability of safe and clean drinking water as an important measure of human development, he requested the PHED department to ensure proper implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission scheme. 

The Governor also advised every eligible citizen especially women to have a Jan Dhan account in order to avail all banking facilities and requested the district lead banking authority to conduct financial literacy camps in order to create more banking and financial awareness. 

Stressing on the drug abuse problem in Nagaland, particularly among the youths, the Governor said that addiction not only destroys the individual but also causes untold miseries to the family as well as the society. He requested the civil society and the law enforcement agencies to go all out against drug abuse and try to do everything to stop the inflow of drugs in the State and make it inaccessible to our youths at all cost. 

 

 

 

Earlier the programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioned, Zunheboto Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS. Short speeches were delivered by Sumi Hoho, President and Sumi Kukami Hoho President. They also gave a representation to the Governor. 

KT Sukhalu, Advisor Food & Civil Supplies, and Legal Methodology in his short speech requested the Governor for his intervention in setting up of nursing school at Zunheboto and up graduation of Khelhoshe Polytechnic at Askhuto to Engineering College. The Advisor added that Zunheboto district still lacks Executive Engineer (Housing) office and the employees or the public have to travel to Mokokchung which becomes very difficult. He therefore, requested the Governors intervention in setting up of EE (H) at Zunheboto soon.

Further, the Advisor requested the Governor to impose check gates again as substance abuse has become very high due to lack of check gates.

After the programme, the Governor held a meeting with district HODs and also conducted a security co-ordination meeting.
