Two Government High Schools (GHS) under Mokokchung district—GHS Saring and GHS Longjang—have once again demonstrated exceptional consistency by maintaining a 100% pass rate in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination for seven and eight consecutive years, respectively.

What makes their performance particularly noteworthy is that it is not a case of one or two students appearing for the exam. Over the last 4-5 years, both schools have consistently presented at least three students each. In 2025, GHS Longjang had all 10 of its students clearing the exam, while GHS Saring had three students who successfully passed.

Meanwhile, two other GHS from the district—GHS Yaongyimsen Compound and GHS Unger—have also achieved 100% pass rates for six and seven consecutive times, respectively, according to the HSLC 2025 results declared by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) on April 25.

In 2025, GHS Yaongyimsen Compound had two students clearing the exams, while GHS Unger had four.

Records available with The Morung Express show that GHS Longjang has maintained its impeccable record since 2018, while GHS Saring began its flawless streak in 2019, which coincides with its apparent upgrade to a high school.

For GHS Yaongyimsen Compound, the near-perfect record from 2018 to 2025 was marred only in 2019 when it recorded an 83% pass percentage. Barring a dip in 2020 (25%), GHS Unger too has maintained a perfect 100% result since 2018.

The consistent performances of these schools underscore that their success is not a one-off event but a sustained trend over the years.

Interestingly, the NBSE appears to have discontinued its earlier practice of highlighting schools with 100% and 0% pass percentages in its official result overview from 2024 onwards. Additionally, detailed district-wise abstracts were missing from this year’s “Result Gazette.”

Nevertheless, a preliminary analysis of the HSLC 2025 ‘Result Gazette’ indicates an improvement in overall school performance. The number of GHS achieving 100% pass rates increased from 25 in 2024 to 32 in 2025.

GHSs with zero results drop
In a positive development, the number of GHS with ‘zero/nil results’ dropped from 28 in 2024 to 20 in 2025. No private school recorded zero qualified students this year, in contrast to three such instances in 2024.

However, it is important to contextualise this data, especially for GHS with zero results, as it often involves just one or two students who were unable to clear the exam.
Similarly, among the 32 GHS with 100% pass results, 12 had very few candidates, ranging from just 1 to 3 students.

Meanwhile, the overall pass percentage of GHS, which had shown signs of improvement with 49.13% in 2023, declined slightly to 48.55% in 2024 and further to 48.41% in 2025.

As per NBSE, out of 22313candidates who appeared in the HSLC 2025 exams conducted in February, 16771candidates successfully cleared, registering a qualified percentage of 75.16%. This is reportedly the best pass percentage since the introduction of the new course in 2010, if not the best in the Board’s history.

In the Class 12 examinations, Government Higher Secondary Schools (GHSS)—Naginimora (Arts), Chümoukedima (Arts), Thangjam, and Mon (Science)—also delivered commendable results.

In a first-ever feat, three students from GHSS featured in the Merit List of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examination 2025 under the Arts and Commerce streams.

Topping the Arts stream was VikhonoSenotsu of GHSS Jotsoma with a remarkable 96.20%, making her the first student from a government school to achieve this milestone. In the same stream, AsienoKielienyü of GHSS secured the 8th position with 93.80%.

In the Commerce stream, Kezhazetuo Nagi of GHSS Jotsoma secured the 10th position with 90.40%, marking another significant achievement for government-run schools in the state.
