Nagaland gears up for highway repairs before G-20 meet

Dimapur, March 16 (MExN): The Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang, called for urgent action to complete ongoing repair works along the National Highway passing through Dimapur-Kohima-Kisama ahead of the G-20 Business Meet scheduled for April 5.

 

 

 

Zeliang convened the first coordination meeting of the National Highway Department, attended by officials from the State PWD (NH), NHIDCL and contractors, to review progress and discuss pending repair works, informed a press communiqué from the Dy CM’s office on Wednesday.

The former Chief Minister, who now holds the portfolio of National Highway in the present government, urged the department and concerned agencies to give their full attention to the repair works before the end of March, so that all major works are completed by March end.

The Commissioner & Secretary for Works & Housing, Kesonyu Yhome, provided an overview of the ongoing works, and various teams supervising the stretches presented their inspection reports and views at the meeting. Yhome also said that a target has been set to complete all major works by March 20.

As per the communiqué, the Executive Director of NHIDCL and the General Manager committed to completing their work within the stipulated target date. Contractors involved in construction works were informed to gear up and give their fullest support and dedication to achieve the targets on time.

However, some existing challenges were also discussed, and the state government plans to remind the Deputy Commissioners of Kohima and Chümoukedima to take immediate follow-up action on enforcement-related issues, it said.

The Deputy Chief Minister assured full cooperation and stated that similar meetings will be convened more frequently to ensure better coordination among all agencies. Delegates from around the world are expected to attend the G-20 Business Meet, and it is an important event for the state, he emphasised.
