While World Population Day is an annual event that is observed on July 11 to raise awareness of global population issues, the Stabilisation Fortnight from July 11 to 24 is aimed at creating awareness about the various means and aspects of family planning.

Mokokchung: At the IMDH Mokokchung, a press release informed that services like Tubectomy/IUCD insertions would be provided free of cost during the fortnight.

Tubectomy / IUCD will be carried out at District Hospital Mokokchung and IUCD Insertions will be done at the Primary health Centres and Community Health Centres, the release informed.

Longleng: Addressing the event in Longleng, Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj observed that population growth can have negative impact in the progress of a state or a nation with limited land and resources.

As a representative of the government, the DC maintained that he understands that government has limited resources particularly in Nagaland which is an agriculture based society with limited land and resources. It becomes difficult for the government to provide infrastructure and other facilities to the people when more villages and wards are created, he said, while urging the gathering to adopt family planning measures to control population growth, a DIPR report stated.

Maintaining that controlling population growth would be beneficial for the nation, he said that it was the responsibility of citizens ‘to realise the problems faced by the government and contribute towards nation building by adhering to the policies and programmes of the Government,’ the report stated.

Dr Ademla Tinu, SMO (Obst & Gynae) DH Longleng, highlighted the importance of family planning as well as temporary and permanent family planning services provided at the District Hospital Longleng.
