Nagaland Fire & Emergency Services conducted a lecture and demonstration of fire prevention and protection programme at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima as part of Fire Week 2021 on April 17.
The programme witnessed demonstration on ‘Handling of fire extinguishers’ by ASI Menose Zashumo, ‘Gas Fire’ by ASI Dzesengutuo Keyho, ‘Search and Rescue Technique’ by SI Inaka, ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ by Thepfükranyu and fire tender demonstration by SI Chumbemo Patton.
Introduction was made by inspector Sedevizo Hibo (OC South) and the programme was chaired by SI Neiketuo Sopfü (OC North).
During the programme, the resource persons educated the public on the practical use of fire extinguishers and other fire safety measures.
Public have been informed that fire is mainly classified into various types; fire which occur due to ordinary combustible materials such as wood, cloth, paper, rubber and plastics etc, fire which occur due to flammable or combustible liquids, greases and similar materials such as petrol, kerosene diesel, paints etc, fire which occur due to gaseous substance and gases such as LPG, Methane, Ethane, Propane, Butane etc, fires which occur due to combustible metals such as magnesium, titanium, zirconium, sodium, potassium etc.
As part of prevention and mitigation, the department encouraged the people to install smoke detectors and alarms at strategic points in buildings and houses for early detection and warning to occupants, avoid tampering of smoke detecting devices and remove any obstruction that can hamper the functioning of the smoke detecting devices.
Through a pamphlet distributed at the programme, the department informed the public not to be panic in case of fire but to stay calm and take action and call local fire station.

A DIPR report stated that it was held as part of the Fire Service Week observed nationwide from April 14 to 10 with the theme, ‘Maintenance of fire safety equipment is key to mitigate fire hazards.’
OC Fire Station Mon, L Yohan Konyak stated that the week was observed not only to showcase the fire safety measures but also to pay homage to the lives lost by fire hazards.
SI Tsarose S Sangtam spoke on the concept of fire and highlighted the classifications of fire and extinguishing methods. He appealed to the public to extend their support and cooperation in times of emergency. 2nd OC Fire Station Mon, Soyhunla Kent highlighted the objectives of fire service.
The programme was chaired by ASI Dennis Singson and vote of thanks was delivered by ASI Razoukuolie Kiewhuo. The programme was followed by a demonstration of fire safety methods. The event was attended by Administrative Officers, various HoDs, Staffs of DC Office and GBs.
