Dimapur, April 13 (MExN): The Department of Soil and Water Conservation organised a felicitation cum valedictory programme of 21st Batch, Soil & Conservation Assistant (SCA) Trainees on April 12 at Research and Training Centre Sechu Zubza.

During the felicitation ceremony, a DIPR report stated that Advisor to Soil & Water Conservation and Information & Public Relations, Imkong L Imchen said, “Every government employee is bound to serve the people,” and likewise he was there to serve the people and deliver good governance.

The Advisor assured that he would negotiate with the government to give more priority to the graduated Soil & Conservation Assistant (SCA), regarding job placement as per the availability of the vacancies since the job itself involves technical experts and the SCA are most qualified for the job.

Imchen also lamented that due to the meager allocation of budget and paucity of funds, the Department could not perform its fullest potential as desired and had faced unforeseen negative impacts over the years and for which, he assured his fullest cooperation to uplift the Department. The Advisor remarked that “he has a habit of taking challenges and bringing something out of nothing” and said he is all out to do his best to bring more developmental activities to the department.

Imchen also said that 107 highly qualified officers in the department are left with nothing to do despite having high technical and scientific knowledge to boost up the departmental activities in many areas due to low budgetary allocation however he assured to focus on bringing more changes to the department.

He also added that he would find ways and means to improve the Research and Training Centre and also expressed his desire to have a thorough look inside the mechanism of the department and get first-hand information to take necessary steps in improving the department.

The Advisor also gave away the graduation certificate to the successful trainees of Soil Conservation Assistant.

Earlier in his address, Director (S&WC) SK Hekshe highlighted that the department has more than 100 qualified officers with different backgrounds supported by more than 700 staff. He mentioned experts’ availability in Laboratory Science, Horticulture, Soil and Water Conservation, Forestry, Agriculture, etc. The Director informed the gathering that the officials have undergone four and half months of compulsory training on Soil and Water Conservation and Agroforestry and are equipped with additional qualifications in GIS and Water Resources.

Addl. Director (S&WC) and Principal, Research, and Training Centre Sechu Zubza, L Chubaonen on behalf of the department welcomed the Advisor and said that the Department plays a vital role in conveying the message to the masses in remote areas for the upliftment of the farming community.

He expressed his optimism that under the dynamic leadership of the Advisor, the department would move ahead and achieve greater heights. He also hoped that the passed-out 21st Batch SCA will execute their work with enthusiasm along with the existing workforce in the Department.

Commissioner & Secretary S & WC, Libanthung Lotha IAS chaired the programme while a speech on behalf of the trainees was delivered by Akhala Sangtam, a special number was presented by Lidangba & friends and the vote of thanks proposed by ASCO (R) Kum Zuchumi Ovung.
