DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 7 (MExN): The Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, the newly formed North East Democratic Front, and the Naga People’s Front today announced more candidates for the ensuing Nagaland Assembly Elections scheduled for February 27.
The RJD Nagaland fielded 5 candidates for the polls. This was informed in a press release from the party on February 6. The announcement was made following a meeting of the RJD’s Nagaland State Candidate Selection Committee.
Nagaland RJD State President, Nikhezhe Sumi; Kumar Sarvjeet, Agriculture Minister of Bihar; Bhola Prasad Yadav, National General Secretary; RJD Nagaland State Women’s President, Shrimati Hetoli Rengma; Patna Mahanagar President, Mehtab Alam; Balli Yadav General Secretary, Bihar RJD; and Patna RJD Chief General Secretary, Naussad Akhtar were present in the meeting.
The RJD office bearers and the Selection Committee “came to an agreement on the list of candidates approved by the RJD for the upcoming elections and have been allocated tickets accordingly,” it added.
The North East Democratic Front (NEDF) informed that it will back and support 6 candidates for the ensuing Nagaland Assembly Elections. A press release from the NEDF General Secretary, Michael A informed that the NEDF was launched officially on January 24 with the motto ‘Power to the People’. Out of the six intending candidates, C John Konyak is an ex MLA, it said.
“Though a new party, NEDF is more than ready to set its foot in the upcoming election with the commitment to restructure Northeast and most importantly, our State, in the spirit of true democratic and responsible tiers of government so as to achieve a just, equitable society. We hope that with these fresh faces in the political scene, we bring fresh perspective, ideas and a just ecosystem for the welfare of the public,” the party added.
The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) meanwhile declared two more candidates for the Nagaland Elections. This was informed in a press release from Mukul Wasnik, General Secretary, In Charge, CEC on February 6. This brings the number of Congress candidates to 27 so far.
The Naga People’s Front (NFP) issued their party ticket to one more candidate on February 6. The ticket was granted to Vikato S Aye for the Ghaspani-1 Assembly Constituency. With this, the NPF has so far issued 22 tickets for the ensuing Nagaland General Election.
