Nagaland Election: People should organise common platform for intending candidates

Medziphema, January 10 (MExN): On the Nagaland General Assembly election which is likely to be held soon, Zhaleo Rio, IAS (Retd), Advisor, Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs, Nagaland opined that people should organise common platform for intending candidates to debate on contentious issues related to development and people welfare programmes.

“Such a platform will enable voters to know leaders and their vision or principles in regard to development of the respective area,” remarked Rio while gracing the Chakhroma Youth Organisation Group-C began wrestling and volleyball meet inaugural ceremony at Medziphema ‘A’ Village on January 10. Altogether, five villages are in the group and the meet will culminate on January 11, stated a press release. 

Speaking at the inaugural function, on development sphere, Zhaleo assured that road renovation and black topping of the road from Medziphema Town till Tsüüma will commence soon to be followed by introducing NST bus service from Medziphema Town to Ngalwa. He asserted that the bus service will boost marketing avenues for villagers as well as students who commute to schools and colleges. 

He noted the importance of games and sports while stressing on the need to “develop a determined spirit to succeed” and a collective effort from stakeholders. He exhorted the players to choose their game and dedicate themselves wholeheartedly wherein discipline, health and training plays pivotal role in building one’s career.

“Sports is a profession which promises immense scope even in employment sector so long a person can achieve laurels and earn recognition,” he quipped, and added that parents or elders should also prioritise to encourage youngsters in the field of sports. 

Zhaleo advised, “Young people should also learn to cope with failures and learn from mistakes,” because it important to be a winner in the end. 

The inaugural session was chaired by Rokozhakho Kruse while Kelhoutshevi Kehie, Former Pastor, Medziphema ‘A’ Baptist Church, pronounced the invocation and Sitso Terhüja shared the welcome address.

Later in the day, Zhaleo attended the 22nd Sakipheto Area Students’ Union Conference at Kupuhe Village as the special guest which is underway with student members from seven villages. 

In his speech, Zhaleo advised the student community to identify their talents and endeavour to achieve their aim in life.

He stated that the present era is very competitive and “the government is committed to select the best candidates through meritocracy” in job or employment oriented fields. Zhaleo also called upon the students to venture into “entrepreneurship because it creates more opportunities for our people” while wishing them a bright future and prosperous life living for our Naga society. 

The programme was chaired by Khevikhu Yeptho and invocation was pronounced by Noghipu Kiho, Youth Pastor, ABK.
