Alleges emergence of poor-rich class divide in Naga society
Kohima, November 24 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) President, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu today stated the Nagaland economy is ‘nose diving’ and the present State Government neither has an economic policy nor a fiscal policy to check the situation.
The State Government also lacks human development or other programmes to safeguard the welfare of the future generation, he maintained, addressing the NPF Mokokchung Division party workers at the Division office on November 23.
If the NPF takes over to form the Government, it will frame appropriate economic policy and make the State a self-sufficient and remove dependency syndrome, the NPF President added.
According to a press communiqué from the NPF Press Bureau, Dr Shürhozelie also lamented that the ‘nose diving’ Nagaland economy is becoming fully dependent on others and accused the present Government of reducing the Naga people into a ‘parasitic society.’
“Today, the poor become poorer and rich become richer, poverty and inequality has been raising its ugly head,” he said, adding that class system which was never known in the Naga society in the past is appearing fast.
Accordingly, he emphasised on the need for urgent change and stressed the need to introduce the right type of economic policy.
Nagaland has many capable officers to plan a good economic policy and have knowledge and capacity to implement measures to make Nagaland a self-reliant State, he noted, but maintained that present Government appears to be “too busy counting their money individually” instead of encouragement and initiative.
Dr Shürhozelie also asserted that if NPF assumes power, the party would work out the right type of fiscal policy with experts and ensure that money is made available to the public by various departments.
Mounting figures of liability and debt as well as ‘easy money’ would be checked while salaries of the Government servants would be release on time, he claimed.
He also asserted that the party would work out policies for human development with experts in various sectors such as social, cultural, language, religion and also to set up voluntary youth brigade in all villages in collaboration with the Churches to check evils like the present unchecked flow of liquor and drugs, adding that various counseling centres would be opened for HIV.
The NPF President also maintained that the party does not mean to blame or criticise anybody but is only “telling the factual position of the present Government.”
Naga political issue would die if NFP dies: Azo
Meanwhile, the Leader of NPF Legislature Party and Co-Chairman of UDA, Khuzoluzo (Azo) Nienu in his speech has claimed that party is believe to be a political wing of the Naga political issue and if the party dies, the Naga political issue will also die.
While expressing his dismay over the ‘defection’ of 21 MLAs, he maintained that true leaders need to maintain their integrity and called upon the party leaders to be truthful to the party.
However, he asserted that the defection is considered “the best thing to ever happen to NPF” and called upon the party leaders to stand firm and work hard to bring back as many MLAs to form the next government.
“We defeated 59 MLAs in the 2003 state elections and we will be able to create another history with the support and hard work of party leaders, workers and supporters in the coming elections,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, former minister and NPF working president Thenucho Tunyi also claimed that with the rejuvenation process of the party at the grassroots level, the NPF will surely do well not only in Mokokchung district but throughout the state to form the next government.
He pointed out that Nagaland is among the least performing states in all aspects in the North-East and asserted that “NPF will turn it into a top state”.
Working President, Dr Huskha Yepthomi and Secretary General, Achumbemo Kikon as well as former Minister, I Imkong, who joined the party along with ex-minister Tiameren Aier and former MLA, Takoyaba, also spoke on the occasion.
The programme was chaired by Mokokchung Division General Secretary (Admin), Tangit Imsong while welcome and introductory address was delivered by Mokokchung Division President, Moasangba Jamir.
