State Level Consultative Meeting on NEC Vision Plan 2047 held in Kohima

Kohima, November 9 (MExN): The core objective of Vision 2047 for Nagaland to achieve socio-economic growth, better infrastructure and connectivity, cultural preservation, sustainable development, and empowerment, highlighted the Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Friday.

He was presenting proposals and suggestions of the Government of Nagaland during the State Level-Consultative Meeting on NEC Vision Plan 2047, organised by the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi) and North Eastern Council (NEC) in Kohima.

The NEC’s plan in line with the vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a Viksit Bharat 2047.

Outlining Nagaland’s core plan, Zeliang, who is also the Minister in-charge of Planning & Transformation and National Highway, pointed out various potentials and challenges and urged the attending representatives of NEC and NEDFi to include them in the final vision plan.

Sustainable Economic Growth: While Nagaland Nagaland’s economy has traditionally relied on agriculture, there is tremendous potential if the sector holds is modernised, he noted.

By integrating advanced technology, organic farming practices, and sustainable methods, the State can enhance food security and unlock new opportunities for export, he said.

This, Zeliang called strategic actions, such as promoting diverse crop cultivation, expanding irrigation and water management systems, establishing cold storage facilities and investing in capacity building for farmers and agricultural enterprise.

Infrastructure & Connectivity: The Deputy CM highlighted that the road networks in the State are gradually improving, but it continue to face the challenge of better connectivity with sustainable roads. Investments into road infrastructure coupled with improved and better Air, Rail and Waterways is essential for all round economic growth, he said.

Among others, he urged for the NEC’s intervention in the State’s aims to penetrate the logistics sector by integrating e-commerce services with other mode of transport, thus creating seamless connections between rural areas and urban centres.

Industrial Growth: Zeliang said that there is a huge potential for agro-based industrial growth in the State and called for establishment of minor and major food processing units in the State, among others. Due to absence of Food Processing units, the growers and farmers of perishable food items are discouraged to a great extent and the NEC may take special attention in this area, he added.

Health: On healthcare sector, the Deputy CM noted that overall infrastructure development requires a major revamp and infusion of modern technology. This is glaring by the very fact that Nagaland lacks Multi-Speciality Hospital, not to talk of a Super Speciality Hospital, he held.

Other key areas requiring immediate attention include the establishment of PSA Oxygen Plants, strengthening of blood banks and related services, he added. He also batted for the establishment of Green Climate Resilient Healthcare Facilities and the introduction of efficient biomedical waste management systems.

Education: There is a lack of essential infrastructure, including academic buildings, hostels, laboratories, and libraries, which are critical for the effective functioning of Higher Educational institutions, Zeliang said. The absence of adequate facilities for incubation centres and sports amenities further limits opportunities for skill development and entrepreneurship, he added.

Art, Culture and Tourism: Tourism remains one of the most potential sectors in the State for income generation and self-sustainability, Zeliang said, while implying for intervention to harness the potential.

Pointing out to Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage, he also noted that the State has huge potential to develop the sector, including promotion and hosting art and cultural activities to reach a far larger audience with adequate support system. The support system included seminars, workshops and capacity building initiatives and investment in establishing State-of-the-Art Cultural and Exhibition spaces across the State.
