DIMAPUR, OCT 13 (NPN): Nagaland on Tuesday reported 123 fresh COVID-19 positive cases– 66 in Dimapur, 37 in Kohima, 19 in Mokokchung and 1 in Mon, taking the tally to 7,363.
Further, out of 7,363 positive cases, the distribution across various categories of people include 3364 cases from the armed forces/police, 1564 returnees, 2063 traced contacts and 372 frontline workers.
100 test positive in Central jail Dmu
KOHIMA, OCT 13 (NPN): Altogether 94 prisoners and six staff of Dimapur Central Jail have tested COVID-19 positive. Confirming this to Nagaland Post on Tuesday, adviser for Prisons and Printing & Stationery, H Haiying said all the cases are asymptomatic.
He said one prisoner, who was booked under National Security Act (NSA), was transferred from Tuensang district and brought to the prison on August 13.
According to Haiying, the prisoner was brought after having tested negative and after more than a month, he tested positive and that’s how the virus spread. He said that temporary arrangement was made within the jail premises where the positive patients were being taken care of.
Haiying said the jail staff maintained all protocols by keeping new prisoners in isolation and even the prisoner from Tuensang was kept in quarantine before being shifted to the jail.

Mokokchung reports 1st COVID death

MOKOKCHUNG, OCT 13 (NPN): Mokokchung on Tuesday reported its first COVID-19 related death even as the district witnessed a steady rise in the number of positive cases. As per official sources, a 62-year old person was brought to the Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) emergency ward on Monday evening. After the doctor on duty investigated the patient, it was found out that the patient had a travel history and was showing symptoms of the virus.
He later tested positive for COVID in the evening and passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday. Following the detection of COVID cases, the emergency OPD of IMDH has been sealed till further orders.
With cases rising in the district, the district administration has also ordered sealing of numerous houses due to detection of COVID cases. On the other hand, gates in many villages of the district have been sealed even as contact tracing is being carried out by health officials.
Following these developments, people are apprehensive that community spread could be underway in the district as many individuals have tested positive for the virus outside the quarantine centres. As precautionary measure, apex civil society organizations have also issued safety advisory for residents in Mokokchung town while also making it mandatory for those entering the town and wards to produce COVID negative test report.
Meanwhile, chief medical officer, Mokokchung in a letter to the deputy commissioner on October 12 had stated that 18 out of 31 police personnel, quarantined/posted at Arie gate Alichen had tested positive through TrueNat at IMDH Regional Diagnostic Centre. In this regard, the CMO requested DC to decalre DEF/New Reserve Mokokchung as containment zone while also urging the DC to recall those deployed at Arie gate and isolate the positive cases.
