In a worrying trend, the COVID-19 test daily test positivity rate (TPR) in Nagaland hovering above 21% during the last seven days, according to official data analysed by The Morung Express from April 22-28.
TPR is the percentage of people who test positive for COVID-19 compared to the total number of people taking the test and a higher rate suggests a higher prevalence of the disease or infections.
As per the data, during the given period, out of 3747 sample tested, 822 tested positive, indicating a TPR of 21.93%. The figure is among the highest in India.
TPR was highest on April 27 at an astounding 33.12%, when out of 625 tested, 207 were positive for the virus.
The second highest was on April 25 at 27.86%, when 180 out of 646 tested positive.
During the last seven days, it was lowest on Saturday when there were 114 positive cases out of 744 tested. With 13569 positive cases out of 145547 samples tested, the overall TPR in Nagaland is 9.32%.
124 new COVID-19 cases on April 28
Meanwhile, with the detection of 124 new COVID-19 cases in Nagaland, the State’s active caseload has gone up to 952 on April 28.
State Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom informed that the new cases were reported from 4 districts. 107 cases were in Dimapur while 11 were in Kohima, 3 in Mokokchung and 1 in Tuensang.
As per the Nagaland COVID-19 bulletin, out of the 124 cases, 81 were traced contacts, 36 were returnees/travelers, 6 were armed personnel/security forces while 1 was a frontline worker.
Meanwhile, 32 recoveries were also reported on Wednesday. Till date, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Nagaland is 13,569 while the total recovery is 12,183. The State’s death toll is 100 (10 not COVID related) and 1 death is under investigation.
