Dimapur, May 24 (MExN): In pursuance of the Home Department’s notification in regard to measures to tackle the illegal collection of money from vehicles at check gates and other locations in the State, inspections were carried out in various locations.
Chümoükedima: As directed to obtain regular reports from the Inspection Team on the alleged illegal collection of money from the vehicles at check gates and other locations, inspection was carried out at Chümoükedima and Medziphema check gates on May 23.
The inspection and verification of all police check gates, Departmental and Municipal, and Town Council check gates under Chümoükedima district were conducted by District Administration, police, and DPRO Staff, stated a DIPR report.
Since the date of notification, no check gates/toll-gate is functioning under Chümoükedima till the time of the report. The Toll-gates of Chümoukedima Town Council and Medziphema Town Council are also closed, it informed.
The following government departments at the check gates during the inspection were Veterinary, Geology & Mining, Forest, Police, Excise, and Chümoukedima Town Council, which are all stationed in the privately owned building.
Tuensang: The Tuensang District Administration led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tuensang, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, Police personnel, and IPR officials inspected Eshou Gate (NAP Check Post) and Kuthor Road, Tuensang on May 23.
Mon: The Mon District Administration and Police conducted an inspection drive for the closure of all check gates except the interstate Police check gates. The team was led by ADC Mon, Y Chingyak Konyak, NCS and Addl. SP Mon, Ado Yanlem, NPS.
The team observed the closure of check gates at four points in Mon Town. Signboards were removed, and the concerned Departments were instructed to dismantle the structures, a DIPR report stated.
Earlier, DC Mon, Thavaseelan K, IAS issued an order for the closure of all check gates except the interstate police check gates. Further, it stated that if any check gates are found functional, all persons manning the gates shall be prosecuted under Sections 188 & 384 of the Indian Penal Code.
Mangkolemba: The inspection team under Mangkolemba Subdivision Mokokchung district headed by ADC Mangkolemba Dharam Raj IAS conducted an on-spot inspection at Tsutapela on May 22.
According to a DIPR report, the team after spot verification has closed down the check gates set up by the Department of Geology and Mining, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Excise department, and the NSCN (IM).
