Tükhenyie (Chakhesang festival) in Pfutseromi village begins

A two-day Tükhenyie (Chakhesang festival) made a colourful start here at Pfutseromi village under the aegis of Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) in collaboration with Department of Tourism, Nagaland on April 24.
Gracing the festival as the special guest, Nagaland Tourism & Higher Education Minister, Temjen Imna Along maintained that Chakhesang community are known as one of the most colourful, one of the most beautiful and hard working community in the state.
“Thank you for preserving your culture and traditions,” he said and extended Tükhenyie greetings on behalf of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Tourism Department.
He acknowledged the Chakhesang community for preserving biodiversity under the banner of CPO. He maintained that such effort will not only contribute towards healthy environment to Nagaland but to the whole NE states. Also stressing on the need to put a collective efforts towards conservation of biodiversity across the state, he assured fullest support from the government side.
To the youth of Nagaland, he said, “We have the same aspiration, we have the same goal and we the same dream. As we move forward to achieve prosperity, let us not forget our roots, our villages, our tradition, our heritage and our culture.” He thanked all those who are working hard towards preserving culture and traditions with so much of pride.
Meanwhile, he stated that most people of Nagaland are not well aware about tourism as an industry while other neighbouring states are making a good headway. Stating that tourism contributes to economic growth and livelihood, Along stressed on the need to rise on the occasion unitedly to harness the potential in the areas of “our destination, our tribal tourism, rural tourism and eco tourism.”
Sensing the immense potential of tourism related activities in Phek district, the minister assured the support of the department.
To the tourists, the minister called upon them not to take just selfies/photos while visiting the state, but to get acquainted themselves with the history and lifestyle of the Nagas and take back home the good message of the people and its beauty.
Gracing the cultural spotlights event, MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu and leader NPF Legislature Party said “I am extremely proud that we Chakhesang at least to some extent, we are up keeping our traditions, culture, heritage and practices.”
“Chakhesang is the only tribe among the Nagas which has brought written customary law and practices,” he calimed.
Sharing greetings, Phek Deputy Commissioner, Kumar Ramnikant maintained that Chakhesangs has taken lead in making peace with environment and biodiversity.
Stating that peaceful environment is crucial in the present society, he stressed on the need to maintain peace within the village, between neighboring villages, between the districts and community to ensure real peace prevail in the society.
He also stressed on the need to draw proper road map to take the community to the next level of excellence and prosperity.
Nagaland CAWD & Taxes Advisor Kudecho Khamo inaugurated Tükhenyie stalls. Wepretso Mero briefed the significance of Tükhenyie.
Earlier, CPO president Vezühu Keyho released Tükhenyie balloons and hoisted the flag of 74th session of Pfutseromi Youth Organization. MLA Dr Neisatuo Mero present at the festival as chief host. MLA Kevipodi Sophie also graced the festival.
The festival will continue till April 25.
