“There are 1939 government schools across the state. Most of them built many years ago and they are on the verge of collapse,” said Nagaland School Education & SCERT Advisor Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome during the inauguration of Higher Secondary Block Building for Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School Kohima on July 18.

“May this building be a source of comfort to build a new legacy of leadership amongst our people,” he said while dedicating the building. He said that Rüzhükhrie GHSS was built in 1940s.

Dr Yhome said that the state’s own resources “are not permitting us to do what we want. But we are also trying to make the best use of what we have.” He maintained that the community and individuals have been supporting schools either “big or small” way. “It is important for us to acknowledge the contribution of the community and individuals,” he said adding that they are extending a great help in nurturing and protecting schools. For this, he said, the department had created a dedicated Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) cell in the Directorate.

A new girl hostel is coming up in Rüzhükhrie GHSS, he said adding that the government is also in the process of taking GPS (below Rüzhükhrie GHSS) as composite school. In this setting of composite school from classes A to 12, he hoped that the school will grow from strength to strength and become an exemplary school. Further, Dr Yhome said that the government is exploring means and ways to make Rüzhükhrie GHSS as “Heritage Building.”

The Rüzhükhrie higher secondary block building was constructed by contractor Thenuokhrielie Yaotsu.
