Monyakshu village declared ‘No Plastic Zone’; Green Community Club launched

Mon, October 8 (MExN): A joint declaration programme for Monyakshu village as ‘No Plastic Zone and Launching of Green Community Club, Monyakshu village was held at Village Council Hall of Monyakshu on October 7.

The programme was jointly organised by District Administration, Forest Department Mon and stakeholders of Monyakshu including, Monyakshu Village Council, Monyakshu Village Students’ Union, KNSK Monyakshu Unit, Monyakshu Village Baptist Church and Monyakshu Citizens’ Union, informed a press release. 

The occasion was graced by Wiridin, NCS, SDO (Civil) In-charge Monyakshu Hq in the presence of the Forest Range Officer, Tobu, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Tobu and various other stakeholders and leaders of the village. The speaker called upon people of Monyakshu Village to continuously uphold with the spirit of such initiatives, and to work hand in hand for mass participation towards success of the vision. He assured to support the initiative in whatever ways the administration can possibly provide.

Tongkem Konyak, Forest Range Officer Tobu in his speech appreciated the initiative and encouraged to take up the initiative seriously keeping in mind the problems of various types of pollution being faced by the present generation. He also shared his concern about the single use of plastic and its impact on environment. He further encouraged the community for conservation of wild life and biodiversity.

S Hongpe Konyak, Dy Director, IPR spoke about the Green Community Club and Dr S Nyamnyei Konyak, Medical Officer, District Hospital, Mon shared a PowerPoint presentation regarding various issues related to use plastic.

The declaration and launching programme was organised with a vision and objective to eliminate single use of plastic materials and significantly reduce plastic wastes; to foster a culture of sustainability, reuse and recycling; to protect water sources, soil and wild life from plastic pollution; and to promote eco-friendly alternatives and innovative solutions, the release informed. 

By declaring Monyakshu Village as ‘No Plastic Zone’, the citizens Monyakshu Village will now demonstrate its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development, and to create a cleaner, greener, and healthier village for future generations.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by E Moba Konyak, President MVSU and G Aban Wangsa, Youth Associate Pastor MVBC pronounced the invocation. The welcome address was delivered by SW Kanlong, VC Chairman.  The programme was followed by plantation of saplings provided by the Forest Department, Mon and Green Community Club, Monyakshu.
