Mocha weakens into depression on Monday

Dimapur, May 16 (MExN): Cyclone Mocha on Monday weakened into a depression over Myanmar after making landfall in coastal Myanmar and Bangladesh on May 14.  “Cyclonic Storm ‘Mocha’ weakened into a depression over Myanmar.

 

 

 

The system is likely to weaken into well marked Low Pressure Area during next few hours,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) updated Monday morning. 

In connection with the storm, the IMD had earlier issued Orange alert for heavy rainfall in parts of North-East India, including, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur and Nagaland.

However, with the storm considerably by Monday morning and the IMD updated that only a cyclonic circulation lies over south Bangladesh & neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level in the evening.

Accordingly, the IMD forecasted ‘very likelihood’ of light/moderate widespread rainfall over North-Eeast India during next 5 days.

At isolated places, there was likelihood of heavy rainfall over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during May 15-19, it said. 

However, no thunderstorm with lightning or gusty winds were forecasted for the region.
