Meritorious students from govt schools honored in Kohima

Kohima, August 31 (MExN): The Directorate of School Education held a felicitation ceremony for the recipients of the Nagaland Government School Students Meritorious Award at the Morung Conference Hall in Kohima. The event was graced by Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education and SCERT, as the Special Guest.

Dr. Yhome congratulated the awardees, emphasizing that their success is not theirs alone but also a testament to the hard work and dedication of their teachers. He highlighted the extensive network of 1,939 government schools across Nagaland, staffed by well-qualified teachers committed to enhancing the state’s education system. Dr. Yhome also addressed the prevailing perception that government schools primarily serve students from financially weaker backgrounds, urging a shift in this mindset.

Dr. Yhome assured that the government is striving to upgrade the education system, noting that government schools are offering free, quality education. He expressed confidence that the system will see significant improvement, predicting a future rush for admissions in government primary, middle, high, and higher secondary schools. He also announced the upcoming launch of the Students’ Health Card (SHC) on September 5, 2024, aimed at improving student healthcare.

The Principal Director of the Directorate of School Education, Thavaseelan K, IAS mentioned that the award program, initiated in 2023, aims to motivate students in government schools.

The awardees for the HSLC and HSSLC Examinations 2024 included Khushi Gupta (Government High School, Chandmari), Nambagwangle Haining (Government Higher Secondary School, Jalukie), and Shethilu Medeo (Government Higher Secondary School, Pfutsero) among others. Dr. Yhome presented certificates and cash awards to the successful students, while Commissioner & Secretary, School Education, Kevileno, awarded certificates to 24 GHS and 3 GHSS that achieved a 100% pass rate in the 2024 examinations.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Wonthungo Thongoe, Director of School Education.
