Kohima, September 1 (MExN): District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) Kohima has stated that the subject ‘mental health and mental health issues’ is gaining its due significance particularly in Kohima.
In the span of four years, DMHP Kohima have conducted mental health camps in CHCs and awareness programmes on mental health & common mental health issues were held on various schools/colleges and churches. In addition, the subject matter was disseminated through All India Radio (AIR) recording/Live sessions.
“The seed sowed by DMHP Kohima are blooming beamingly as the educational institutions and churches are taking proactive role in recent times,” Veronica Nriame, Psychiatric Social Worker, DMHP Kohima stated in a press release.
Some of the events where the DMHP Kohima team has participated as resource persons include: ‘Understanding Children’s Mental Health and Core Counselling skills for Teachers’ was organized by Administrative Training Institute, Kohima on August 26; Kohima Zeme Baptist Church included the topic, ‘Introduction to Mental Health and common Mental Health Issues’ in their youth seminar on August 23 ; seminar on ‘Substance abuse and Significance of Intervention’ was organized by Mount Herman Higher Secondary School on August 12; Don Bosco College Kohima organized seminar on ‘Importance of Mental Health and Common Mental Health Issues’ on May 7 and seminar on ‘Stress Management for Ministerial Staff’ was held on May 4 at Kohima College.
The DMHP Kohima has appreciated the institutions for paving the way forward and signifying the importance of mental health through awareness on the subject matter to our young dynamic students/youth. Furthermore, it is essential to promote the mental health of school teachers and the Ministerial Staffs to thrive and discharge the best assistance at their disposal.
“Abuses of substances/alcohol, anxiety and depressions disorders are rising rampantly in our society. We can combat these issues by conducting awareness sessions to disseminate information on the subject matter, seeking professional help at the initial stage for better prognosis and to create more platform and venue to openly discuss the mental health issues and strive for primary prevention,” the team added.
