Mao Union Senapati provides refreshment en route

Senapati, May 8 (MExN): The Mao Union Senapati (MUS) on Sunday provided refreshment to the citizens of Nagaland who being evacuated from Imphal due to ongoing violent unrest in Manipur.

As per the union, there were about 1000 people in around 30 vehicles, mostly buses, accompanied by arm escorts arranged by the Government of Nagaland. All were provided with the refreshment. 

Realising the situations and hardship which the people, especially the students and children, must have been through, the MUS along with the women and youth numbering around 200 people gathered at Senapati around 6 am to give moral support and arrange the refreshment, the union said.

The team also wished the evacuees a safe onward journey on their homes from Senapati, which borders Nagaland’s Kohima district in the north.

Arrangements for food for the mission team through Manipur Baptist Convention Centre Imphal by Rev K Losu , Executive Secretary MBC but due to the security protocols it could not be materialiaed, it said.

Just around the bend of ‘Marty memorial’ between Tadubi and Maogate, the volunteers of Mao Students Union (MSU) and Mao Naga Women’s Welfare Association (MNWWA) received the evacuees and offered refreshments (food packages), it added. 

The union also expressed gratitude to all who join hands and initiated the positive energy to undertake the common humanitarian effort. 

As per an official release, a total of 676 persons, including 341 families from Nagaland were evacuated during the ‘Operation Kohima Calling’ carried out by the HQ IGAR (North) in coordination with the Nagaland State Government and Nagaland Police on May 7.
