Lulu Nienu from Minister Hill Higher Secondary School, Kohima emerged the champion of the 9th edition of Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship 2022 held here today.
A student of Class IX, she spelled four words correctly– Thermoluminescence, Oojamaflip, Transhumance and Oubliette in the final rounds to emerge as the title champion.
She pocketed a cash prize of Rs 60,000 along with trophy and citation.
Salevizo Kuotsu from The Vineyard School, Kohima bagged the 2nd position and received Rs 40,000 along with trophy and citation.
A student of Class IX, he spelled Nystagmus, Commissionaire and Portmanteau correctly in the final round to bag the second position.
Pratyasha Pattnaik from G Rio School, Kohima came 3rd and was awarded with Rs 20,000.
Kekhriengunuo Solo from Northfield School Kohima bagged the 4th position and pocketed Rs 15,000.
The Young Speller Award was awarded to Tsunivi Chishi of Rincho Academy, Dimapur. He received Rs 4000.
The quarter finalists Kethoneinuo Rhetso from Living Tree, Kohima, Ochaliro Amer from Rev Dr Neilezhü Usou Memorial School, Kohima, Phamying Anghwanhu from Trinity School, Kohima and Abigail Ngaihte from Alderville HSS Kohima received Rs 5000 each.
Nagaland’s School Education & SCERT Advisor, KT Sukhalu graced the closing function as the special guest and gave away the prizes to the winners.
The two day championship was organized by Fountain Club Kohima in collaboration with State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Nagaland at RCEMPA, Jotsoma under the theme “The Learning Edge.” Other partners of the Spelling Bee Championship included The Morung Express, Ramietech Solutions, Crystal Cables Kohima and Mirrorless Films.
Earlier, Daniel Thong from SCERT talked on “Reflections” while vote of thanks was proposed by Fountain Club chairman S Kevisavi Hibo.
Altogether, 58 students from 29 educational institutions from Kohima, Dimapur, Tuensang and Phek districts joined the championship.
