Advisor for Prisons, Printing and Stationery, Government of Nagaland, Er Kropol Vitsu today said “there was need to broaden our mindset and set new standards if we want to excel in sports and build a profession not only in the state but in national and international arena.”
He was speaking during the inaugural programme of the 59th annual games and sports meet of Kezoma Village Youth Organization (KVYO) which commenced at the village on January 15.
In the state, he observed that wrestling was one of the prominent games. Other games that were commonly played by people in the state were football, badminton or table tennis. While at the state level, our people seemed to be playing well, however, lamented that our people are rarely representing the State outside of our homes, despite other Northeastern states producing national and international sportsperson especially footballers.
In this regard, he urged people to ponder and change one’s mindset and encouraged youths to build professions in different field without solely depending on government for jobs and contracts.
To change radical thinking, the speaker said it needs a collective effort of society. One where we should encourage a person good in sports to develop and excel in their field or the person himself should choose his own vocation and kick start his profession.
Touching politics, he clarified on the present stance of the state and said 60 sitting MLAs under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio are united as an oppositionless government. One importance, he emphasized was to work together towards Naga solution. He stressed on how social media propaganda can also have adverse effects on systems and cautioned people not to believe in false propaganda.
Kevisa Noho delivered Presidential Address. He said that from 1980 onwards when the village started using the ground for its games and sports event, it had been primarily maintained by the village folks. However, Noho said with the change in time, it had called the need for a ground essential for the sports enthusiast to utilize it to its full potential and develop their sportsmanship.
Kezoma Village Council, Chairman, Kikrosa Naki shared words of greetings. He spoke about how in the past wrestling was a prominent sports and on the Annual Wrestling day, people gathered in plenty, leaving all their day’s work to witness the wrestling. While, today, games and sports in the like of wrestling day has become an annual event, Naki encouraged the people, young and old to honour and be part of the village event with the same fervour.
Folk song was presented by Yohotsomi A khel and Games and sports Secretary, Visüto Kisotso undertook the oath taking.
