KVSU holds general conference cum Sachü Scholarship Award

Kohima, January 9 (MExN): The Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU) held its general conference cum Sachü Scholarship Award under the theme: “Future Forward: Enroute to 100” with Director, Information & Public Relations, Dzüvinuo Theünuo as the theme speaker at Kohima Village Council Hall, Kohima on January 8.

Speaking on the theme, Dzüvinuo Theünuo lauded the KVSU for coming up with a 15 years’ vision plan for the Union’s 100th anniversary since it has already attained 85 years of its inception, stated a DIPR report. She called upon that today’s students would be shouldering the roles and responsibilities of KVSU during the time of its 100th anniversary. Therefore, she urged everyone to put their best efforts in their endeavours and look forward to the occasion. The union belongs to everyone; the past, the present, and the future so everyone can be a part and parcel of the union’s activities and initiatives for the welfare and well-being of the village as a whole, she said.

Theünuo described the students’ union as the union which oversees the human resource development, wherein, upliftment and management of people in the right way is the paramount.  She stated that the world is constantly in transition as life of a human is, however, to stop such a change is beyond our control.  Yet, what we can do at our own level is self-preparation and upgradation for the future without complacency be implanted in us.

She said that Human Resource Development doesn’t mean to striving in education sector alone, it also means to put our best efforts in whatever we do for the betterment of our people. According to Greek philosophy, no one is born with a wisdom or good character but these are the traits learnt and adopted since childhood with consistency in practice and perseverance in pursuit. Till today, the most advanced nations continue to strongly uphold its olden values and traditions, philosophy, literature and architecture, she cited. Realistic knowledge and its fulfillment not only enhance quality of an individual but it also helps the society in all aspects. It also brings social change, improve general health and well-being, she asserted.

On the occasion, Theünuo also stressed on the enhancement of economy and climate change, and the importance of keeping our land sustainable despite of the situational challenges faced by the present-day society. Referring to a Russian writer, Leo Tolstoy, she said the best time to do anything in life is “today,” as we do not own of the past nor of the future, and said, the most important persons in our lives are the ones around us at the moment. The real meaning of life is fulfilled by someone who helps others as “Service to others provides its own rewards,” she said. 

She urged the KVSU to uphold its motto” March for the better,” and reminded them with a maxim “Well done is better than well said.”

On the topic “Leadership: Roles and Responsibilities,” Former, KVSU President, Keneingu Rutsa said that a leader is someone who has the ability to guide and influence others to achieve common goals. He said a leader with no clear vision and work is not a true leader. Rutsa mentioned that a leader should have the ability to delegate works to others on the basis of ability and talent. He should also know when and how to guide, encourage and motivate his fellow colleagues.

Unity and understanding with the leader is the key in achieving success, he added. As a leader, he should know how to adapt the situation in consonance with the changing times, saying that leadership is made not born.

He also urged the students to be a good follower of their seniors because a good leader is a good follower. He said integrity, self awareness, visionary, team work spirit, communication, understand other’s problems, decision making, accountability, acknowledgement and humility are the qualifies that make a person to become a good leader.

The 2nd Edition of Sachü Scholarship Award sponsored by Vikuonuo Sachü, former Miss Nagaland 2019 and founder of Mericulum Society, Noklak was given.

KVSU, President Vilalhou Sorhie delivered the welcome address. General Secretary, Seluokuolie Rutsa, Treasurer, Kikruneizo Zatsu and Property Secretary, Sedevilie Kire presented reports. Convenor, Selection Committee, Khriesamhalie Daniel Rutsa presented new office bearers for the tenure 2025- 2027. The new KVSU team 2025-2027 will be led by Khriesaneikuo Kire as President and Kiyakhrienuo Solo as General Secretary. Kethonuo Sekhose and Avibou Belho presented special numbers. Vote of thanks was proposed by Asst Catering Secretary, Mhasilietuo Kire.
