Meets with GPRN/NSCN (K-YA), appeals for entering into ceasefire

DIMAPUR, MAY 21 (MExN): Konyak organizations have urged the Government of India and the Government of Nagaland to extend the existing 16 km Free Movement Regime (FMR) belt to the whole of Mon district in order to facilitate movement of people on humanitarian grounds.

This appeal was made as the Konyak Union (KU) along with the Konyak Students’ union (KSU), Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK), Konyak Village Chairman Union (KVCU) and Mon District GB Association (MDGBA) held a consultative meeting with the GPRN/NSCN (K-YA) and all the Konyak village council representative in Throilo, Myanmar on May 19.
A press release from the KU stated that there are daily problems faced by the Konyak people in Myanmar. They are compelled to depend on Mon district for their healthcare needs and even basic necessities, the KU noted.

It further stated that considering the “hard situation in the region” as a result of the abrogation of ceasefire agreement, the Konyak organizations urged the NSCN/GPRN (K-YA) Konyak region to take initiative for entering into a cease fire agreement with both India and Myanmar so as to enable peace in the region.

“The NSCN/GPRN (K-YA) Konyak region authority had agreed to take up the matter in the higher authority for further action,” the KU informed.
