DIMAPUR, October 12: Swarnim Vijay Varsh Victory Flame, which commemorates the golden jubilee of India’s victory over Pakistan in 1971, reached Kohima Garrison of Assam Rifles on Monday amid a grand welcome ceremony with military honours and fanfare.
In a press release, PRO IGAR (N) informed that the welcome started with the last mile run from TCP gate to Kohima War Memorial.
At Kohima Garrison War memorial, a ceremony was held to welcome the victory flame which was attended by war veterans, civilian dignitaries and school children along with all the ranks of Kohima Garrison.
Chairman CFMG, DGP Nagaland T. John Longkumer, IGP (Int) were some of the dignitaries who attended the event.
During the ceremony, dignitaries and war veterans laid wreaths which was followed by tree plantation.
In the second event at Kenguruse hall, the war veterans were felicitated where a speech was delivered by IGAR (N).
Meanwhile in the evening, a road show was organised in Kohima town with victory flame.
The event was instrumental in recalling the invaluable service of veterans while evoking a feeling of unity, PRO stated.
It may be mentioned that the victory flame which was flagged off from National War Memorial, New Delhi on December 16, 2020 arrived Dimapur Rangapahar Military Station of the Spear Corps on Saturday and was received by Manju Eliyas wife of 1971 War Shaurya Chakra awardee late Lt Col Cyril Jonathan Eliyas.
The Swarnim Vijay Varsh Victory Flame reached Kohima on Monday, at around 11:30 a.m.
