Kiphire: Union Minister Bhoumik asks Social Welfare dept to carry out survey of PwDs

To review and assess various development projects and schemes implemented under Kiphire ‘Aspirational District’ programme, Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Pratima Bhoumik held an extensive interaction session with the district administration and heads of departments at the DC’s Conference Hall, Kiphire town on September 20.

Bhoumik said that her visit to the district was to listen to the concerns and issues that are faced by the Aspirational District and share them with Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. ‘If Kiphire does not progress, the country cannot progress,’ she said while maintaining that she was mentally prepared to travel to Kiphire by road had the chopper service been unavailable due to bad weather conditions. 

She asked the district administration to submit proposals for setting up of a District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) in the district headquarter at the earliest.

The Union Minister also pointed out that there were 21 people with disabilities in the district according to the Kiphire Social Welfare department’s records. In this connection, she asked the department to carry out extensive survey across the district so that a new disability report can be collected and camps can be conducted.

On various bank loans and social welfare schemes provided by the government, she directed bank officials to make the schemes more accessible to the common people.

Further, she also put emphasis on the importance of Anganwadi centres, stating that without good Anganwadi centre, there would be no good product in schools and universities. Anganwadi centres should be learning centres as well, she added.

Overall, she expressed satisfaction over the implementation of various government schemes and projects by various implementing agencies and encouraged them to work even harder so that maximum beneficiaries are benefited. 

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire T Wati Aier, while welcoming Minister Bhoumik,  highlighted the Kiphire district Aspirational delta ranking and said the district was currently ranked at 10 position as per June 2020 Key Performance Indicators (KPI).

Later, the Union Minister who was The Union Minister was accompanied by officials from Delhi, also visited District Hospital Kiphire (DHK) and interacted with doctors and staff.
