KG Kenye bats for 500MW hydro projects in Nagaland

Nagaland Power Minister KG Kenye today stressed on the long pending need to boost power generation in Nagaland state, which has a potential of about 1000MW. However, he expressed disappointment that no hydro project was sanctioned lately despite much effort by the state government.

He said this while attending a Conference of Power Ministers of North-Eastern States & Sikkim on July 9  at Guwahati. Kenye made a fervent request to the Union Minister to consider for development of at least 500MW of hydro projects in Nagaland.
He also requested the Union Minister of Power to give NE States some relaxation in the guidelines for implementing Central Sponsored Schemes with particular reference to the RDSS scheme.

Kenye also reiterated the pending request of Nagaland for the Lineman Training Centre building infrastructure under the CBIS of NERPSIP to which the Union Minister of Power agreed to provide the same.

Kenye was accompanied by Nagaland Secretary (Power) Asangla Imti, Chief Engineer (D&R) & HoD, Department of Power Er Wabangmeren Jamir and Chief Engineer (T&G) Er Kasho Chishi.

The conference was chaired by Manohar Lal, Minister of Power, Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India. The conference reviewed ongoing schemes in the North-Eastern States and deliberated on various issues of generation, transmission, distribution and power sector reforms in the region. The conference also emphasised on measures to promote ease of living and power adequacy plan.
