The Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) has decided to extend the ongoing total bandh within Southern Angami jurisdiction to an indefinite bandh with effect from midnight of March 23.

The decision has been taken after the Manipur government has failed to withdraw its armed personnel and permanent structures within 72 hours from Kezoltsa area, according to SAPO President Kevipodi Sophie and General Secretary Swelul Pucho.

SAPO stated that during the indefinite bandh against the state of Manipur, the para-military forces on duty, ambulance with patients, press/media, Tenyimi Public Organisation executives and its unit executives, TPO Board of Arbitrators on production of valid document will be exempted.

SAPO, in a press release, stated that the indefinite bandh will continue until its demands are met.

Meanwhile, the Assam State Unit of World Meetei Council expressed concern over the bandh underscoring that such border disputes “could have been settled by both the state governments in time.”

It appealed to the SAPO to review the decision and opt for “alternative ways without disturbing the flow of National Highways and not victimizing innocent people of the region.” Stating that the states have recently been recovered from the pandemic, it requested for free flow of movement on the highways.
