Nagaland’s Power & Parliamentary Affairs Minister, KG Kenye, today expressed deep concern over the growing number of organizations in Naga society.
“We have too many organizations in the Naga society,” he said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 38th Meet 2025 of the Phek District Sports Association at Phek Town.
He noted that while Naga society has taken full advantage of the freedom of association guaranteed by the democratic system, it is important not to abuse it. “There is a limit to everything,” he stated.
“Given the size of our population, we should not have so many unions, associations, and occasions at every level, in every tribe, and in every district,” Kenye said. “We need to restrain ourselves. We need to reduce unnecessary events, unions, and associations,” he added.
Kenye strongly believed that “we are engaging ourselves in too many unproductive activities.”
While acknowledging that celebrations for milestones like 25, 50, 75, or 100 years of an organization are important for reflection and future planning, he stated, “But having such celebrations every year is really unnecessary.”
He stressed the need to cut down on these celebrations to save resources and funds, and to invest them in more productive activities, such as sports. “Such an environment can generate employment, which will serve as a catalyst for both the development of our state and the growth of individuals,” Kenye said.
The minister also suggested that the government should begin by cutting down on unnecessary expenditures and channel resources in more progressive directions.
