HSSLC Result: Arts & Commerce streams performance improve

The overall pass percentage of candidates in the Arts and Commerce streams in Nagaland’s Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examination 2023 improved, while there was a marginal decrease for the Science stream.

The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), which conducted the HSSLC exam from March 9-31, declared the results on May 24. A total of 16,085 students had enrolled for the examination. 

Stream-wise, the pass percentage in the Arts stream was 82.62% in 2023, an improvement over last year’s qualification rate of 80.64%. 

Likewise, the pass percentage in the Commerce stream increased from 82.28% in 2022 to 85.83% in 2023. 

However, in the Science stream, the pass percentage decreased slightly from 88.24% in 2022 to 86.79% in 2023. 

According to the NBSE, 15 institutions under the Arts stream, 5 institutions under the Science stream, and 4 institutions under the Commerce stream secured a 100% pass result.

As usual, girls outperformed boys in all streams in terms of the overall pass percentage as well as the number of candidates featuring in the top 10.

 In the Arts stream, the pass percentage for girls was 86.27% compared to 78.44% for boys, while in the Commerce stream, it was 90.34% for girls and 82.47% for boys. In the Science stream, a total of 90.39% cleared the examination, compared to 82.51% for boys. 

All 18 candidates making it to the top 10 in the Arts stream were girls, while in Commerce, there were 8 females and 4 males in the leader board. It was equally distributed at 9 each for the Science stream.

Stream-wise toppers:
At 97.20%, Moanola Longchar of Town Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung, topped the Arts stream, followed by Nonya Konyak (97.00%) of Little Star HSS, Dimapur, and Bodeno Chüsi (96.60%) of Christian HSS, Dimapur. 

In the Commerce stream, Zahid Ahmed Laskar (99.20%) and Fiza Khanom Barbhuiya (98.80%), both from Christian HSS, Dimapur, took the top two positions, while Manashmi Ghosh (98.60%) of Pranab Vidyapith HSS Dimapur secured the third position. 

Awang P Yimpushü (97%), Nilovito H Shikhu (95.80%), and Wonchilo T Khuvung (95%), all from St John Higher Secondary Residential School, Dimapur, secured the top three positions in the Science stream. 

There were three toppers from Government Higher Secondary Schools in the merit list for the HSSLC Examination 2023 in the Arts stream.

 They were Watisangla (95.80%) of Mayangnokcha GHSS, Mokokchung, at the 5th position, 9th ranked Kilenkala (94.20%) of GHSS Tuli, and Kikogwamle (94.20%) of GHSS Jalukie at the 10th position.
