DIMAPUR, SEP 11 (NPN): Close on the heels of the meeting between government of India’s Interlocutor for Naga peace talks R.N. Ravi and Working Committee of seven Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) on September 10 at Police Complex, Chümoukedima, (published exclusively by Nagaland Post), media cell of WC has declared that “the defining hour is approaching for announcing honourable and acceptable solution adding both the government of India and WC felt, that “the unity of Nagas at this time is critical.”
This development comes amid heightened speculations that the Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to resolve the Naga issue within September this year.
WC said at the September 10 meeting, the Interlocutor R.N. Ravi, affirmed that the government of India was taking forward the decision of the Naga groups on October 31, 2019. WC said the government of India has acknowledged the fact that Naga tribes and civil societies had spelt out their positions over the “Indo-Naga political issue.” Therefore, WC said, in reciprocation, the government of India “is determined to fulfil the political aspiration of the Naga people.”
WC said the official position of the government of India was that “the Naga issue must be settled and waiting period is over”. In this regard, WC said the government of India was “preparing necessary steps”. The government of India expressed appreciation of WC,NNPGs holding cordial engagement with neighbouring communities and that this should continue, since any outcome would affect all the neighbours, it said.
Pointing out that while the Centre and Naga people desire that there should be only one solution, the government of India “will not wait for anyone anymore”, added WC.
WC, NNPGs also said it had disclosed the status papers of the negotiations to Naga tribes, elected representatives, past and present, Naga civil societies and church leaders. WC said this has created a “positive impact” as it has proven to be the only practical approach towards resolving the “Indo-Naga political issue.”
WC also conveyed to the government of India through the Interlocutor, that Intangki (National Park) is the common property of all Nagas and that it shall be restored to its “original pristine position” and that in whatsoever manner, “cannot be disturbed post solution.” In response, WC said the Interlocutor said “Intangki belongs to the people of Nagaland” and that the government of India has no say over land and natural resources of the Nagas.
According to WC, the issue was one aspect of the sovereign rights of Nagas. Further WC appealed for prayer support from Naga people, “till acceptable and honourable political solution is declared.”
It may also be recalled that WC has reiterated several times, that the signing of the Preamble/Agreed Position with the government of India on November 17,2017 forms the basis for negotiating all competencies.
In statements, WC had informed that it has shared contents of issues discussed during negotiations with various Naga tribe hohos, church, civil society groups, past and present elected representatives of the assembly , chief minister, opposition leader and MPs , high level official bureaucrats including intellectuals and important personalities of Naga society.
It said, the viewpoints and suggestions brought out during all these interactions and consultations were taken up at the negotiations with the government of India.
GPRN/NSCN regional authorities back WC: Regional authorities of GPRN/NSCN have endorsed and affirmed their “satisfaction of the explicit stand” taken by the Working Committee of NNPGs.
GPRN/NSCN through its MIP said that its regional authorities at a meeting held at CHQ, Khehoi designated camp on September 11, have affirmed that they “fully support and endorse for an early announcement of the Indo-Naga political solution that is honourable and acceptable by the Nagas”.
The regional authorities also agreed to “endorse and support to stand by the “Agreed Position” signed between Government of India and WC/NNPGs.
