DIMAPUR, JUN 17 (NPN): The State government has ordered a total ban on movement of individuals and vehicles from 4 p.m. to 5 a.m. with effect from June 19, on all days across the state, except for reasons/purposes and for those who are permitted to move as per the existing lockdown measures.
This order comes close on the heels of the decision of the High Powered Committee (HPC) on Covid-19 for extension of the ongoing total lockdown from June 19 to June 30.
In the order, chief secretary J Alam explained that the ban on movement was warranted since the positivity rate of Covid-19 in the State continued to remain high, above 5% in all districts. He said order was warranted for taking adequate measures for preventing spread of the virus.
The order further ruled that District Task Forces have been empowered to take additional stricter measures in their respective districts/area based on local conditions if, in their opinion, such measures were urgently required for containing the spread of Covid-19.
The decision was also taken after taking the views of Health & Family Welfare department and DTFs, it added.
Kohima: Meanwhile, Kohima district administration has notified that the existing lockdown measures would continue to remain in force in Kohima district till June 30, 2021 with additional guidelines.
In an order, the deputy commissioner (DC) and chairman District Task Force (DTF) Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie, stated that permitted category of shops would open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The district administration has reiterated that the proprietor of permitted category of business establishments/private establishments would be held responsible for ensuring strict compliance to COVID-19 SOPs within their respective establishments.
Further, there would be a total ban on the movement of individuals/vehicles from 2 p.m. to 5 a.m. every day from June 19-30, 2021 across the district except for reasons/purposes and for those permitted to move as per the existing lockdown measures.
DC cautioned that violation of the order would be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
Odd-Even system: DC Kohima also notified that movement of private vehicles would be allowed as per the existing Odd-Even system within the jurisdiction of Kohima Municipal Council except on Sundays.
In an order, DC Kohima informed that vehicles with registration number ending with odd numbers (1,3,5,7,9) would be allowed to ply on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while vehicles with registration number ending with even numbers (0,2,4,6,8) would be allowed to ply on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
DC cautioned that violation of the directive would be liable to penalty under Section 177 & 179 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, adding that the order would remain in force till June 30, 2021.
