Dimapur, December 4 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland, instead of organising festivals and becoming an ‘Event Management Group’ should do its duty and deliver on the genuine needs of the people, the Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has said.
In a press statement issued through its Media Cell on Saturday, the CNTC blamed the leadership of the present government for their “failure to deliver equitable distribution and governance” to the areas that fall under the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO). “The elected house including the MLAs of the ENPO areas is responsible for the present embarrassing stalemate,” it said, referring to the demand for a separate ‘Frontier Nagaland’ state put up by the ENPO.
According to the CNTC, the government should take the MLAs of ENPO areas into close confidence and bring out policy and programme to provide a clear road map and system of efficient governance. The CNTC also express concern and regret that the ENPO is not participating in the ongoing Hornbill Festival. While the festival is considered as international event where the unity of different tribes of the state is displayed, “the morungs of ENPOs were closed and empty which has presented a different story,” it lamented.
The CNTC also took a jibe at the state government, stating that it should do its duty “instead of organising festivals of festivals and becoming an Event Management Group.”
“But for obvious reasons the state government as the guardian of the state has left the demand of the ENPO in cold storage. Therefore, the state government should explain why the ENPO started to ask for separate statehood and why it cannot address the issue,” the CNTC stated.
Further, calling on the state government to address these issues “before it gets out of hand,” the CNTC also reiterated its stand on an early Naga political solution and appealed to the Government of India “to deliver the solution as promised before the state assembly election.”
As parliament winter session is due, CNTC is hopeful that the Naga political issue will be taken up in the winter session which will bring fruitful conclusion which indeed is a long cherished dreams of all the Nagas, it added.
