Gov’s tribute to Nagaland’s founding fathers

DIMAPUR, DEC 2 (NPN): On the occasion of 59th Statehood Day, Nagaland Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi recalled the enormous sacrifices of the pioneers of the State and paid tributes to the leaders whose tireless efforts and strategic foresight paved the way for creation of Nagaland safeguarding its unique identity.

Prof. Jagdish Mukhi along with his wife Prem Mukhi and officials of Raj Bhavan also paid rich floral tribute at the bust of the ‘Founding Father of Nagaland’ Dr. Imkongliba Ao at Raj Bhavan, Kohima.

While extending greetings and good wishes to citizens of the State, Mukhi said the essence of this beautiful State lay in the rich ethnic diversity, a tribal society with its distinct tradition and customs, the resilience and resolute spirit of its people that withstood the test of time.

Pointing out that Nagaland was blessed with vast natural resources and immense potential, Mukhi said the wealth of flora and fauna and resources offered tremendous scope for productivity and development, particularly in agriculture and horticulture sectors.

Though tourism has received a boost to some extent, he said Nagaland still remained an unexplored haven as a biodiversity hotspot.

Meanwhile, coinciding with the Statehood Day, the Governor also celebrated his 80th birthday. The officers and staff of Governor’s Secretariat led by commissioner and secretary to the Governor T. Mhabemo Yanthan wished Prof. Jagdish Mukhi a happy, long and healthy life.
