Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton today said that there has been no report on influx of illegal migrants till date in Nagaland in the aftermath of the recent crisis in Bangladesh. Stating this in the 5th session of the 14th NLA here, Patton assured the people of Nagaland that the government will take all steps to prevent any influx of illegal immigrants to Nagaland state.
“Our state government is alive to the unfolding situation. With the help of our village administration, civil society organizations, we are well- prepared to deal with any situation that many arise,” the Deputy CM said.
“Our state does not share a border with Bangladesh. Hence, the possible route for any potential immigrant, as the initiator of the debate has mentioned, will be mostly via our neighbouring state of Assam,” Patton said. This Committee includes other security agencies such as DIB, Assam Rifles and Central Armed Police Forces.
“Adequate measures, which are specific to each district, have been initiated to check and report presence of any illegal migrants from Bangladesh,” he said.
To avert any illegal immigration in Nagaland, the Nagaland Police has been directed to be on a “high alert” all along the Inter-State Borders.
The police officers deployed at 13 Inter State Check gates and all the ingress points have been instructed to be vigilant. Senior Police Officers have been directed to brief the troops on ground to remove any complacency, he said. He added that the police will be aiming to prevent any attempts for infiltration while patrolling and checking during the Mobile Vehicle Check posts and at the Inter State Check Gates and border areas.
