Government seeks info on those from Nagaland stranded in Ukraine

Deputy chief minister, in-charge of Home, Y Patton has urged parents and relatives of anyone from Nagaland who might be stranded in war-torn Ukraine, to provide details of such parents or through Naga Students’ Federation.

Patton offered all possible help to anyone from Nagaland studying, traveling or working in Ukraine and left stranded there or those who had fled Ukraine and taking shelter in neighbouring countries. Patton promised to bring back “our brothers and sisters” by getting in touch with officials in the Union Ministry of External Affairs and Indian embassies in foreign countries.

Waiting to be evacuated, says med student: Meanwhile, talking to Nagaland Post, Machi Yirakchang from Poilwa village Peren- 4th year medical student in Ukraine- said that students were yet to be evacuated to Budapest (Hungary) as they were still stuck in the border area.

He, however, said that all of them were safe and waiting to be evacuated. Machi said there were several hundred Indians-a majority of whom are medical students, waiting for their turns to be evacuated.

“I am just waiting for my name to be listed out. It may take a week or two to be evacuated from the border area,” he added. According to some reports, there were several other students from Nagaland stranded in Ukraine, but the exact figure could not be ascertained.

Helpline activated
State home commissioner, Abhijit Sinha has informed that the details of any person from Nagaland who may be stranded in Ukraine and needed to be evacuated, may be provided by his/her families/relatives, for necessary support and facilitation, at the following numbers/emails of the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), NSDMA– 0370-2291122/2291120 and seoc.nsdma@gmail.com, sdma.nagaland@gmail.com
