Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the National Rozgar Mela (5th Tranche), held simultaneously in 45 locations across the country. During the programme, approximately 71,000 appointment letters were handed over to newly recruited individuals in the various government departments and organizations. 

In his address, the PM underscored the government’s efforts towards streamlining the recruitment process. As per a PIB release, the government seeks to make it faster, transparent, and unbiased. He highlighted the significant reduction in the time taken for onboarding new recruits, stating that the process now takes only 6-8 months compared to the previous duration of 15-18 months. The Prime Minister credited the digitisation of the application process and the introduction of self-attestation of documents for simplifying the recruitment procedure. He further mentioned the abolition of interviews for Group C and Group D positions, signifying the elimination of nepotism from the process.

He emphasised the government’s commitment to youth empowerment, while stating thathis government’s policies over the past nine years have been designed to create employment opportunities.

He added, the recent Rozgar Melas held in states like Gujarat and an upcoming event in Assam demonstrated the Central government’s dedication in this direction.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the transformative changes in the job sector, with new industries emerging to cater to the country’s youth. He emphasised the government’s support for startups, citing what was claimed to be an exponential growth in the number of startups from 100 before 2014 to over 1 lakh today, providing employment to more than 10 lakh youths.

According to him, a significant increase in rural road length, the rise in the number of airports, and the establishment of common service centres in villages, have all contributed to job creation. On that note, he highlighted investments of approximately Rs 34 lakh crore in capital expenditure and basic facilities, including the construction of new highways, airports, rail routes, bridges, and houses for the poor. 

He said that through the Mudra Yojana, loans worth more than Rs 23 lakh crores have been provided, enabling citizens to establish new businesses and expand existing ones. Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign, he said that the government is supporting manufacturing through schemes like the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI).

In the services sector, he said that technological advancements that have improved the lives of people, such as app-based taxi services, online delivery systems, and the expansion of the city gas distribution network. 

He also highlighted the rapid development of higher education institutes, skill development institutes, IITs, IIMs, universities, medical colleges, and ITIs across the country. He mentioned the creation of new institutes, courses, and the enhancement of skill development opportunities through schemes like PM Kaushal Vikas Scheme.

The PM urged the new recruits to make the most of the opportunities and highlighted the government’s focus on their skill development through the iGoTKarmayogi module, an online learning platform.

321 appointment letters in NE

In the Nagaland leg of the Rozgar Mela, 321 appointment letters were handed out to freshly recruited youths, of which 67 were women, from the North-East region at a programme organised in Dimapur. It was organised by the office of the Postmaster General, North East-II Region, Dimapur, where Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment (MoS), Pratima Bhoumik, handed away the appointment letters. 

Recruits from Assam and Sikkim were not in the list, with the two states from the region to be included in upcoming events.   

The MoS termed the Rozgar Mela as a celebration of employment and a crucial element in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India “Vishwaguru” (the global leader) and “Atmanirbhar” (self-reliant). The vision extends beyond government jobs with the government also affecting significant growth in startups in the country between 2016 and 2023.

Bhoumik said that the PM’s commitment to empowering women is not confined to speeches alone, while stating that it is evident in Nagaland recently electing two women to the state Assembly for the first time.

In terms of connectivity, she said that infrastructure in the region has improved with the number of increasing airports from 74 to 147.  Enhanced connectivity, she added, leads to more employment opportunities for the youth.

While stating that the empowerment of the youth directly contributes to the empowerment of the nation, she urged the newly appointed employees to remember their struggles, which would enable them to serve the people better. She also mentioned the various development-oriented schemes implemented by the Government of India across the country.
