Several parts of Nagaland on Monday experienced snowfall and rain as temperature dipped below 5°C.
Several places in Kohima, Kiphire, Phek and Zunheboto districts experienced snowfall as people thronged the areas. Images and video clips of snowfall in Luvishe village and many other villages under Aghunato sub-division and Satoi range in Zunheboto district; the picturesque views of Dzükou base camp and parts of Viswema under Kohima; Mt. Saramati area, Thanamir and in Seyochung area in Kiphire and Pfutsero in Phek district were doing the rounds in social media.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted more rain and snowfall in many States in the next few days.
Weather alert: Meanwhile, as per an update issued by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) in coordination with Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, the weather across Nagaland is expected to experience patchy rainfall up till Monday and will clear up from Tuesday.
NSDMA said there could be partly cloudy sky with dry and sunny weather over the State between February 22 and 25. The temperature during both day and night was expected to increase marginally during this period.
However, rainfall activity was expected to make a comeback around February 26 but for a short duration, which would be light and scattered and was not expected to have major impact. Districts like Peren, Kohima, Phek and Kiphire were expected to experience scattered rainfall at few places around February 25, the release added.
According to NSDMA, some places in Kohima district are expected to experience a minimum temperature of 0°C with a maximum temperature of 11°C, while those in Phek are expected to experience a minimum and maximum temperature of 0°C and 12°C respectively. These are expected to be 0°C and 18°C respectively in Zunheboto, 0°C and 14°C respectively in Kiphire and 2°C and 16°C respectively in Tuensang.
These were some of the districts where extreme changes in weather phenomena had been, the update noted.
NSDMA urged the public to be vigilant and not to take shelter under large trees and near river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and flash flood. It also requested all District DDMAs and other line departments to be on alert to save lives and properties during this period.
